The Stipe family, consisting of Chelsea and her husband, are the proud owners of an 11-year-old Golden Retriever named Charlie. Unfortunately, Charlie had to have both of his eyes removed due to glaucoma, which significantly impacted his daily life. He often feels tired and uninterested. To bring back happiness and vitality into Charlie’s life, Chelsea came up with the idea of introducing a new dog into their family.
They decided to bring home a Golden Retriever puppy named Maverick, who quickly formed a strong bond with his older companion Charlie. Despite some initial differences, the two dogs have become close friends. Charlie now relies on Maverick for various activities, including walking, playing, eating, and even using him as a pillow! They spend their days together, engaging in playful and affectionate interactions.
According to Chelsea, “They’re both quite eccentric and special. They truly entertain us. Whenever Maverick and Charlie play, it’s a delight to witness Charlie transform into a playful puppy. It’s heartwarming to see them enjoy each other’s company.” As the dogs grew more comfortable with one another, Maverick began to learn and emulate Charlie’s behaviors and routines. Chelsea shared, “During playtime, Maverick realized that Charlie sometimes lost the toy, so he would pick it up and place it back in front of him to continue the fun.”
Maverick proves to be an intelligent puppy, as he sensed Charlie’s need for assistance and guidance during explorations and activities. His youthful energy has revitalized Charlie, allowing him to relive his playful, energetic, and lively days despite his senior age and health condition.
Ever since Maverick joined their household, the Stipe family has created an Instagram account to share the pups’ new life together. In their first post introducing both dogs, Chelsea and Adam humorously mentioned that “Maverick is here to assist Charlie, while Charlie tries to teach Maverick some manners. It’s definitely a work in progress.” The caption was accompanied by an adorable photo of the two dogs standing side-by-side, gazing up at the camera. Subsequent posts showcase the dogs engaging in tug-o-war, napping together, and posing with their new sibling. Chelsea expressed, “We have been overwhelmed by the response, but it’s incredibly positive. We love how happy the dogs make everyone in the community.”
