The Unbelievable Journey of Maggie: From Surviving 17 Gunshots to Becoming a Therapy Dog

Maggie, a five-year-old dog, is a living testament to her resilience and determination. She has triumphed over extraordinary challenges, including surviving being shot 17 times, finding a loving forever home, and becoming a certified therapy dog.

Found on the streets of Lebanon almost a year ago, Maggie was in a pitiful state. She was blind, pregnant, and had lost an ear and both of her eyes due to the brutal shooting she endured. However, in spite of the horrors she has experienced, Maggie remains a source of joy and love, eagerly greeting each person she meets as a potential new friend.

Upon hearing about the sad situation from social media, a compassionate lady in London contacted The Wild At Heart Foundation, seeking assistance for Maggie. The brave dog was ultimately rescued and brought to safety. However, she required numerous surgeries and treatments before she could be put up for adoption. Eventually, Maggie found her forever family in Brighton, England.

Kasey Carlin, a 25-year-old, is the proud owner of Maggie, who has become an internet sensation with over 248,000 Instagram followers. Admirably, Kasey left her job as a dog walker to fully dedicate herself to managing Maggie’s Instagram account. Reflecting on their bond, Kasey shared, “Maggie has taught me and countless others invaluable lessons. We have all learned and been inspired by her incredible story. She reminds me every day to exercise compassion and acceptance, to embrace love, and to approach life with humility and gratitude. Maggie teaches us that we have the power to shape our own happiness and achieve greatness through belief in ourselves. She is a constant reminder for me to strive for personal growth and contribute positively to the world.”

Maggie has recently become a certified therapy dog and regularly visits hospitals, nursing homes, and colleges. People can feel a sense of peace and joy in her presence. At home, Maggie has captured the hearts of her owners as well as Mishka, Kasey’s other dog. Kasey expresses her amazement, saying, “I am constantly astounded by the number of people who have been touched by Maggie’s story. For so long, she was overlooked and disregarded, which is why I decided to foster her. I am thrilled that she can now spread such an important message to the world.”
