When two other dogs viciously attacked a dog, Greenville County Animal Care urgently sought a volunteer to transport the injured dog to a vet clinic. Fran Alexay Rizzo, an avid animal lover, stepped forward to answer the call.
During a walk, two women heard a commotion at a nearby house, which ultimately led to the rescue of a dog named Legend. Investigating the source of the commotion, they discovered two Pit bulls attacking another dog. The Pit bulls were tearing him apart, prompting a concerned individual to contact animal control. The three dogs involved in the incident were then taken to Greenville County Animal Care. Upon first seeing Legend, Alexay observed that he was covered in blood and had numerous bite marks. His left ear had been completely ripped off, and the right ear was barely hanging on. His body was riddled with bite marks, with visible holes from his shoulders forward. Some wounds were so severe that blood would seep out whenever he moved.
Upon arriving at the vet, they were uncertain if Legend would survive such brutal injuries. While no bones had been broken, the wounds inflicted had taken a toll on his small body. Nevertheless, Legend proved to be resilient and managed to survive his first night. He underwent surgery and received fluids, along with a feeding tube, over the course of several days. Fortunately, his condition started to improve.
As the days passed, Legend’s wounds continued to heal and improve. However, his medical expenses were steadily increasing. Fortunately, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC stepped in to assist with the financial burden. Jackie O’Sullivan, the co-founder of the organization, expressed her satisfaction with Legend’s progress and gratitude that he managed to survive. Many individuals were deeply moved by his story and the incredible journey he had endured. Although Legend can hear perfectly fine, his ears were completely torn off, and his body remains scarred. Nevertheless, he remains a cheerful and upbeat dog. His tail is in a constant state of wagging, and his absolute favorite thing is showering Fran with kisses.
