Jamie was left speechless after witnessing the astonishing takeoff of Halo.
At the Safe in Austin Rescue Ranch in Texas, individuals can experience a sense of love and acceptance.
The Power of Resilience
This is because the farm’s residents either have special needs or have survived abuse and neglect.
Therefore, when a child like Harper Wulms, who was born with a congenital hand abnormality, visits the farm and meets a rescued turkey named Priscilla, with her own “lucky claw,” a remarkable healing effect can be created.
“There is something truly enchanting about observing a child with differences come here and proclaim, ‘They’re just like me,’” expressed Jaime Wallace-Griner, the founder of the sanctuary, to The Washington Post. “When you witness Harper holding Priscilla’s fortunate hand with her own fortunate hand, it bestows so much warmth to your heart.”
Wallace-Griner’s farm is home to over 150 animals.
A Sanctuary for Special Needs Animals
These animals, who would have otherwise faced euthanasia or neglect, find solace here.
“We open our arms to animals that are blind or deaf, suffer from diabetes, cerebral palsy, deformities, missing limbs, broken spines… they all become a part of our family,” shared Wallace-Griner.
Introducing Halo
One of the remarkable animals at the sanctuary is a Great Pyrenees puppy named Halo.
Halo was abandoned in a box by a breeder who deemed her unusable.
Just Like Everyone Else
Yet, according to Wallace-Griner, Halo never seemed to realize that she was different from the other dogs.
She has always been a kind-hearted girl with a joyful spirit.
Newfound Mobility
Previously, Halo relied on hopping to get around, but she recently received her very own pair of prosthetic legs from OrthoPets.
Her reaction to trying out her new legs for the first time was the epitome of sweetness!
“I cannot express my astonishment. I am in disbelief,” Wallace-Griner shared on Facebook.
Wallace-Griner had planned to merely let Halo try on the prosthetics that day.
She had not anticipated Halo actually walking, let alone running, with them!

With gentleness, Wallace-Griner delicately placed the prosthetic legs on Halo, ensuring her sense of security.
However, once Halo wore her new legs, she expressed her desire to stand tall with them.
Halo sat for a moment, finding comfort and becoming acquainted with her newfound legs.
A Quick Learner
Then, she stood up straight, all on her own.
As Wallace-Griner unveiled a carpet, Halo immediately took her first step on it with her brand-new legs.
