This is Twiggy, a cat who was near death when rescued by Dire Straits. She was severely emaciated, weighing only four pounds and had lost all of her coat due to malnutrition.
Twiggy had badly ulcerated corneas and cataracts in both eyes and was unable to see. We soon learned that Twiggy was diabetic and ketotic.
She was also anemic and had a heart murmur. Despite her condition, Twiggy was not ready to give up! As Twiggy’s diabetes was brought under control, she began to slowly gain weight.
When she was healthy enough, she was spayed and had both mammary chains removed due to multiple tumors. Thankfully, the tumors were benign.
Twiggy also had a much-needed dental procedure and had eight teeth removed. Twiggy is now up to a healthy seven and a half pounds and is doing well with insulin injections twice daily.
