When a dog was brought into the remote animal shelter in Donna, Texas, even the most stoic rescuers were taken aback. The dog was highly riddled with ticks, a condition that perplexed everyone.
The puppy, named Amora, had been living on the streets of Texas. Neglected and on the edge of death, she wandered into the yard of a stranger who called Dallas Dog Rescue for help. The sight was heart-wrenching as ticks covered her from head to toe, making it difficult to recognize her. The infestation of ticks was unimaginable, with her ears, breast, back, and paws all affected.
She was so weak and anemic that standing was a challenge for her. Rushed to the hospital, she received life-saving treatment and underwent a blood transfusion.
“This beautiful stray sought assistance in a stranger’s yard!” announced Dallas Dog Rescue on Facebook.
“This is her lucky day…”
Amora, the dog, was then transported to the rescue’s partner veterinarian for further care. Her condition was critical, and the team focused on stabilizing her health before planning her transfer to Dallas. The prognosis remained uncertain.
Exciting news arrived the following morning!
“Mi Amor survived the night,” a source on the ground revealed. The hospital staff approached her cautiously and would soon begin her feeding routine. More ticks were found, but they didn’t hesitate to assist her with cleaning. However, they decided to wait until the office was fully prepared.
