A Heartwarming Tale: Clever Canine Observes Students Using Money for Food, Attempts Leaf-based Imitation

Leaves have a remarkable resemblance to money, and wouldn’t you agree? This clever canine certainly thinks so!

Regardless of our extensive knowledge about dogs, these adorable and intelligent creatures always manage to surprise us humans. They possess a level of intelligence far beyond what we give them credit for.

After all, dogs have spent countless hours by our side, observing our behavior and even mirroring certain aspects such as voice modulation, emotional expressions, and even engaging in basic financial transactions in exchange for treats.

Meet Negro, a black Labrador from Colombia, who has found a unique way to “pay” for his beloved cookiesβ€”using leaves from a tree.

Located on the campus of the Diversified Technical Education Institute Monterrey Casanare, Negro serves as both a loyal school guardian and a beloved campus mascot.

This remarkable black dog might not have an official owner, but he receives abundant love and care from the school’s faculty and students. They provide him with food, shelter, and endless affection in the form of scratches and belly rubs. Over time, Negro carefully observed students visiting the campus store and making purchases.

As generous students offered Negro food to devour, he decided to take matters into his own paws.

With his bright eyes and wagging tail, this clever canine ingeniously plucked a vibrant green leaf that closely resembled a dollar bill. Joyfully, he proceeded to carry it to the store’s counter.

Although it appeared quite comical, the store employees quickly realized that Negro had adopted this newfound currency to purchase his desired cookies. It seems this bright pup has learned a new trick from his human classmates.

Touched by his adorable intellect, the store attendant warmly accepted his leaf payment.

“He comes for cookies every day,” mentioned the store attendant, Gladys Barreto, with a smile. “He always pays with a leaf. It’s become a daily ritual for him.” It seems the saying “money doesn’t grow on trees” holds no relevance for this charismatic dog. Fortunately, the store employees ensure that Negro’s leaf offering doesn’t lead to excessive treats or an expanding waistline.

The number of cookies is wisely limited to maintain the perceived value of the leaf and Negro’s health.

Negro’s behavior is just one example of dogs’ astonishing intelligence. It seems that higher education doesn’t solely benefit students but also our loyal canine companions.
