As GWARP received a distress call on September 22, they were faced with a heart-wrenching situation. An elderly dog, in critical condition, was found chained up without food or water. This was a completely new and devastating case for the experienced animal rescue organization.
The dog seemed to be suffering from untreated bone cancer. It had spent years surviving on a meager diet of scraps and leftovers, lacking the necessary nutrients and vitamins. This poor diet had led to the development of osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that usually occurs as a result of severe injury or infection, leading to tumor formation. Tragically, this aligned with the witness reports of the dog being mistreated by its intoxicated owner. The dog was kept chained up and hidden in the yard for an extended period. The chain was so short that the dog could barely move a couple of feet.
The GWARP rescue team faced resistance from the owner when they tried to save the dog. The owner believed he had the right to keep the dog as his possession. To address this, the team sought help from local law enforcement. The dog appeared visibly distressed when the team left to speak with the authorities, and it took some time to convince the owner to release the animal. The owner finally relented after receiving proper documentation and conditions required to report their actions.
The poor pup urgently needed medical attention, including thorough examinations and blood tests. The young dog also required immediate amputation. Tissue samples were sent for histological analysis. The road to recovery would be long and challenging for both the dog and the rescue team. X-rays confirmed the presence of osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. The only glimmer of hope was the absence of metastases in the dog’s lungs. Sadly, the tumor was growing rapidly, causing the skin to tear with each passing day.
The rescued dog, now named Jordan, received a comforting bath to wash away the scars of his past and the negative energy from his previous owner. However, there was a somber update: suitable treatment options for Jordan were not available in Azerbaijan. He needed time to recover before he could travel to Turkey, where better medical care was accessible. His journey was scheduled to take place in a few days.
Upon reaching Istanbul, Jordan underwent sedation for full-body X-rays before his amputation surgery. The surgery was successful in removing the tumor-ridden limb and setting Jordan on the path to recovery.
In the days following the amputation surgery, Jordan showed remarkable resilience and adaptability. He quickly adapted to his new life without any hindrance, and his appetite returned. We all anxiously awaited his speedy recovery and a brighter future. Our love and support were with Jordan during this challenging time.
