An extraordinary event occurred in Yekaterinburg: a dog from the local kennel has claimed the title of Russia’s champion by giving birth to a whopping 17 puppies at once. This feat is truly remarkable, as no American Bully has ever delivered such a large litter, making it a rarity even among other breeds.
Record-breaking Dog Gives Birth to 17 Puppies
The proud mother of this large brood is named Felicita, as reported by our colleagues at E1.RU. This unexpected happiness surprised both the dog’s owners and veterinarians, as none of them could have predicted such a remarkable outcome. The dog’s belly only started visibly growing a week before she gave birth.
“We underwent two ultrasounds, and on neither occasion were we able to accurately count the number of puppies,” mentioned Alexandra Stepanova, a breeder of American Bullies. The initial reaction to the news was one of shock. How and why did this happen? However, these puppies are now cherished members of our family, bringing us immense joy and pride.
Ordinarily, American Bullies give birth to three to eight puppies. However, delivering 17 requires a caesarean section. Despite their numbers, each puppy was born within the expected size range, weighing around 400 grams.
The surgery lasted for a duration of 40 minutes. All the doctors and assistants present at the clinic participated in the procedure, while visitors eagerly awaited its conclusion. Olesya Busse, the head of the surgical department at the Khachiko veterinary clinic, described the anesthesia as flawless. Epidural anesthesia and gas anesthesia were both employed during the caesarean section.
