Humans are capable of performing acts that vary in degree of magnificence, from the smallest gestures to the grandest actions. Animals, however, outshine us in many ways. In their natural habitat, they primarily attack for survival or out of fear, never inflicting harm or torment for pleasure.
The unfortunate dog we are about to introduce you to is cruelly owned by an eccentric and sadistic man who derives pleasure from torturing her, burying her alive, and restraining her to prevent escape. This treatment is inhumane and abhorrent.
Despite this cruel treatment, the French Mastiff named Athena refuses to succumb. She fights for her survival, hoping for someone to find and save her. Luckily, animal lover Pedro Dinis stumbles upon her while walking his pit bull on a dump in Carrieres-sur-Seine. His dog’s unusual behavior alerts him to something protruding from the earthβa living dog.
Athena finds herself trapped, with her head secured to a bag of gravel by stones. Dinis knows immediate action is required. He excavates the dirt with his hands to avoid causing any harm or distress to Athena. He also provides her with water to rehydrate. Remarkably, she remains calm throughout the rescue.
Once rescued, Athena is promptly taken to a veterinary hospital for urgent care. Although weak and dehydrated, she is now out of immediate danger.

However, during examination, veterinarians discover signs of arthritis, a result of her prolonged abuse. They initiate treatment to alleviate her suffering. Throughout her recovery and rehabilitation, Athena is adopted by the compassionate Delfosse grandparents, where she will live a joyous life in her new home.
