Stories of animals being cruelly treated by those who should care for them with affection, respect, and freedom, and provide them with food, can leave us with a heavy heart. Thankfully, there are numerous organizations tirelessly fighting for their well-being.
A disturbing incident involving a puppy trapped in a dilapidated cage without food or water came to the attention of volunteers from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control in Indiana, United States, on July 1.
The enclosure where the puppy was found was incredibly cramped, dirty, and devoid of any care. Authorities are currently investigating to identify and bring to justice the person(s) responsible for this atrocious act.
Despite the state of extreme malnutrition, the rescuers managed to save the puppy. It was a chilling sight to see the little dog reduced to skin and bones. A pedestrian who came across the puppy on South Anthony Boulevard in Fort Wayne took immediate action.
The weak puppy was unable to even take a step. His condition was distressing and heart-wrenching. The personnel from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control took charge of his care.
“When we found him, he was motionless. It’s impossible to know how long he suffered from hunger and thirst, but for the poor puppy, it must have felt like an eternity. We won’t rest until we find those responsible,” said the rescuers.
The exact breed of this helpless puppy hasn’t been determined yet. It appears to be a male Beagle or a Brittany Spaniel mix. The veterinarians estimate that the puppy is around a year old.
Currently, the furry fellow is under the protection and compassionate care of the pro-animalist organization. The ongoing investigations aim to gather more information about the person responsible for the dog’s suffering and initiate the necessary legal proceedings.

“The puppy is making good progress. We just hope that the captor will be found, held accountable, and that incidents like these will not keep happening,” added the team from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control.
